US vs Canada

In a battle over border supremacy, Sodium came out and showed the Vancouver BC White Caps how they got to be defending State Champions. Around the 5 minutes mark Sodium drew first blood. Marissa Reid was applying pressure on the White Cap defense when a pass back to the goalie was shanked. An alert Erika Cook controlled, two touched and fired it into the back of the White Cap net! Towards the end of the first half, in a melee in front of the Sodium net, the White Cap forward squeaked a shot passed Kristin Boone, who I might add played a great game. The first half ended in a 1-1 deadlock. Physical play today was an understatement. More bodies hit the turf than in any other game until this point. This was a tune up for what the 07-08 team will face at Regionals next month.
The second half proved to be the same as the first, tough, physical play. Six minutes after time had elapsed the White Caps scored there second goal. Whether it counts or not really doesn't matter. The warrior girls of Sodium held there own against a bigger, older, hand picked ODP squad. A game they should be proud of. Hats off to the Sodium defense who stepped up and really put some flying bodies on the White Cap forwards. To recognize their efforts, Ronnie awarded the game ball to defenders Bethany Hall and Taylor Coon.
This was the first competitive outing for the Sodium 'Rookies' Camille Fairbairn, Taylor Moscoe and MacKenzie "Mac" Kearney. All three got PT and a taste of 'Sodium Style' of play. 'Mach 10 with your hair on fire' is the norm and these ladies did an exceptional job. We look forward to having them on the team!

Next Up:
THUSC 3v3 tournament, Saturday May 31st.

Until then: GO SODIUM!

The journey begins...

Try outs for the 2008-2009 U13 Sodium team began Sunday, May 4th with a daily double. The morning session at the REC and the afternoon session at Powerlines park.
Todays session was held back at the REC on field #5, site of this years State Championship game.
Spirits were running high as the championship victory was still lingering in the air. The girls turned up the heat in scrimmage as players vie for the coveted open spots on the Sodium roster. Talented girls from several different clubs ascended on the REC for the two day try outs. With clipboards in hand Tom, Nikki and members of the coaching staff evaluated the hopefuls.
Meanwhile, on a not-so-distant field, you could hear coach Ronnie shouting pearls of wisdom to the new, yet to be named, class of U11 stars. A State Championship in their future as well? Only time will tell.

Best of luck to all.

About the blog

This blog is dedicated to the 2008-2009 United Sodium U13G soccer team. Check back early and often for entries, game highlights and overall rants and raves about the team. I will be your host for this journey, Ed Coon (better known as Taylor's dad). We can use sayings from last year's State Champion team (like BACK IN BLACK and If it is to be, it's up to me) or we can coin new ones unique to this years team. However you decide, it's your team, your season, your glory.

So Lady warriors, parents and Sodium fans, relax, sit back and hold on tight, it's gonna be a heck-of-a-ride!

Proudly we say: GO SODIUM!
